The Town Of Marseilles & Seneca, Illinois
Welcome to Seneca and Marseilles located in the majestic Illinois River Valley. The towns are nestled beside the historic Illinois River, which adds to both towns natural beauty. We pride ourselves on the peacefulness that these towns offer. Evening walks, or a visit to the bank is often the time for a short chat with your neighbor or an old friend.

Children still play around "the neighborhoods" and Friday nights still brings everyone to the local sporting events. Each season Mother Nature decorates this area with outstanding scenery. Camping, fishing, and boating have brought people into this area. After their first visit they continue to return; and many seasonal people purchase homes or property and relocate.

Emergency service is rated very high with excellent health services nearby. If we have a need for "super shopping", several malls and major stores are just an easy drive away. The Illinois Michigan Canal's Heritage Corridor has created a biking and hiking trail that brings you right into the Seneca and Marseilles Main Street areas. Each offers eateries and fuel for the snowmobiles, now a major winter attraction to the trail. Several small shops await you if you should want to browse in a small town, "Main Street" atmosphere.

The Illinois River has attracted many industrial plants to this area, and with major interstates with-in miles, as well as rail service, several industries have located here. The towns offer outstanding education for the youngsters and extra curricular activities at each school within the area.

From Pre-school to the Vocational Education, from College bound to Work Force Preparation, the administrations and Boards of Educations continue to work for one goal - to offer the best. Secure in the Illinois River Area, Seneca and Marseilles grew up on the north bank of the Illinois River.

The shaggy brow of a sandstone bluff that follows the line of the river overlooks each community. Here, small town living is at its best. It is a five-minute drive from one end of Marseilles to the other and there is just one stop sign along the way. Much the same is true of neighboring Seneca. Neighbors know neighbors and shopkeepers know customers by their first names. A friendly climate prevails in both Marseilles and Seneca. The two communities are separated by a five-mile stretch of valley and hillside land dotted with industry, fascinating campgrounds, and fine homes. The full spectrum of homes can be found in Marseilles and Seneca, from elegant Victorian designs of the late 1800's to contemporary executive styles; from small bungalows and ranch styles to complexes of rental apartments.

Recreation is a primary resource in the River Valley Area. Marinas are spotted along the shores of the Illinois River. Four major state parks are near the two communities, providing hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobile trails, plus camping, picnicking, and other recreational opportunities. Illini Park is as near as just across the river from downtown Marseilles.

Numerous campgrounds command idyllic locations on the bluff above the river, some offering stables and trails for horseback riding. Both communities are situated in the Illinois-Michigan Canal National Historic Corridor, an attraction that draws thousands of visitors annually. Larger cities, such as Ottawa, Morris, and LaSalle-Peru, are near enough that their shopping and entertainment amenities can be conveniently enjoyed.

The same is true of health care. Quality hospitals in Ottawa and Morris can be reached in about 20 minutes. Public school systems in both Seneca and Marseilles assure sound education programs for youngsters growing up in the two communities. Residents of the two towns have enhanced 911 access to emergency services, when needed. However, a sense of peace and security permeates the atmosphere in both communities. It is a value that only America's small towns still realize and it is alive and well in Marseilles and Seneca.

Location CONVENIENT TRANSPORTATION Situated on U.S. Route 6, only about three minutes south of Interstate 80, the communities of the Illinois River Area are regularly visited by some 28 intrastate and interstate common carriers. They deliver the supplies needed by local business and industry and depart full of the products the two communities produce.
