Relocation Guide Main Page - West Suburbs Area Guide
The Town Of Glen Ellyn, Illinois is your source for information on Glen Ellyn. If your moving to Glen Ellyn or just visiting, you will find all kinds of information on real estate, schools, areas, parks, churches, crime, things to do, places to visit, local businesses, dining, and much more!Known as "The New England of the Midwest," Glen Ellyn is an exceptionally wonderful place to live, work, and play. Verdant parklands, Lake Ellyn – a 10-acre natural wonder – gracious homes on tree-lined boulevards, and a vibrant downtown and southern business district create a Village that uniquely blends hometown appeal with up-to-date convenience.

Since the first settlers arrived in the 1830s, Glen Ellyn has continued to draw families looking for a distinctive way of life. It is a place where time slows down, neighbor knows neighbor, and residents work together to preserve the past, support the schools, parks, and library, and improve the community.

Volunteer opportunities abound with our many civic and service organizations. A tour around town takes one past architecturally significant homes built between the 1860s and 1930, the cupola-topped village hall, Glenbard West High School (locally known as the ‘Castle on the Hill’), and the recently constructed public library.

The "spirit of history" is alive and well at Stacy’s Tavern, a restored 1840s tavern located at Five Corners. Formerly a way-station for travelers heading east to Chicago and west to the Fox River, Stacy’s Tavern is now home to the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, which schedules a variety of educational programs and re-enactments honoring Glen Ellyn’s mid-19th-century origins.

With a population of 26,000 and a short commute to the hustle and bustle of Chicago’s downtown Loop, Glen Ellyn has successfully maintained its small town character, making it always a great place to come home to.

Situated in DuPage County, between Lombard and Wheaton and between Geneva/St. Charles Road on the north and Butterfield Road on the south, Glen Ellyn’s just a hop, skip, and a jump from neighboring suburbs, the fast growing East/West high-tech corridor, and roadways connecting to Wisconsin and Indiana. Village residents benefit from close proximity to a series of east/west and north/south thoroughfares–including Interstate Highways I-88, I-355, and I-294 and Illinois State highways Route 38, Route 64, Route 56, Route 53, and Route 59.

The Glen Ellyn Train Station supplies plenty of parking for those climbing aboard Metra trains, which make regularly scheduled 33-minute runs into the city. Pace Bus services transport residents around the area and to the train station during morning and evening commuting hours. Business travelers and vacationing families are just 45 minutes from international and domestic flights arriving and departing daily from O’Hare International Airport to the north and Midway Airport to the southeast. DuPage Airport, 15 minutes west of Glen Ellyn, is a general aviation facility that accommodates business and recreational aircraft.
